Sample 3
A Sample from Studio Ensemble Revolution
A course built in true partnership with a 20-year ensemble veteran, turning his hands-on operational expertise into a structured curriculum.

The audience
Private music teachers, primarily instrumental, but applicable across vocal and string disciplines, who want to launch a studio or community ensemble program but have no formal training in the operational, financial, or logistical decisions involved.
The problem
Most private music teachers know how to teach an instrument but not how to build and run an ensemble program around it; scheduling, tuition-setting, rehearsal logistics, and marketing are a completely different skill set with no formal training pathway.
The solution
This course was built in true partnership with Dan Parasky, a fellow private studio educator with 20 years of experience running his own ensemble program. I served as co-instructor and instructional designer, translating Dan's experience-based knowledge into a structured course through active back-and-forth rather than a one-time handoff.
Dan opened our collaboration with a single guiding question, "If you were to instruct someone on how to start an ensemble, what would be the first step? Then what would be the second step?" and a one-hour-per-session constraint.
As he developed the outline, I stayed an active collaborator: reviewing drafts, suggesting supplementary platform tutorials, and helping shape his proposal to broaden the course from flute-specific to any studio ensemble.
The final course sequences four sections in a deliberate, readiness-based order: Communication first, then Finances, then Rehearsals, then Marketing.
My role
I'm credited as co-instructor alongside Dan. I contributed to outline development and content sequencing throughout, gave direct feedback on drafts, helped shape the decision to broaden the course's scope, and built the course logo and landing page.
Dan, as the primary subject matter expert, recorded the majority of the instructional content based on his own operational experience.
Outcome
Teachers completing the course launch an ensemble program with a clear operational sequence instead of guessing where to start, set tuition with a structured framework, run both online and in-person rehearsals confidently, and market their program using a tested recruiting approach.
Constraints
-
Each session needed to fit within a strict one-hour limit, shaping how granularly content could be broken down
-
The course had to work for both flute-specific and general-instrument audiences after the scope broadened mid-development
-
As a true SME collaboration, sequencing had to be built through iterative back-and-forth rather than a single upfront design pass
